Morning all,

I'm looking for some information / suppliers about anti-microbial coatings for metal parts. As far as I’m aware, there are anti-microbial polymers, and I believe Copper has now been officially registered by the EPA in the US as "anti-microbial", but I'm wondering if it’s possible to have a sort of anti-microbial paint or coating for steel or aluminium. Any ideas?

Also, does anyone know how tough such a coating might be, as i can imagine that a scratched up anti-microbial (that’s a tough word to type) coating would still be a dirt trap - and thus not be much use.

Thanks in advance!

Kobe Steel's antibacterial coating improves fish yield at commercial fish farms
June 5, 2007

TOKYO, June 5, 2007 - The Fuji Trout Hatchery at the Shizuoka Prefectural Research Institute of Fishery and Kobe Steel, Ltd. have commercially applied an antibacterial coating that improves the sanitation of fish hatchery equipment to control parasitic water mold.

At fish farms, parasitic water mold is a problem because it inhibits the hatching of fish in the salmon family. The antibacterial coating is being used at a commercial fish farm in Yamanashi Prefecture and several others in Shizuoka Prefecture. Since autumn last year, fish from these farms have been shipped to market.

Using the antibacterial coating called KENIFINE, developed by Kobe Steel, it is now possible to reduce the amount of expensive veterinary medical products used so far to maintain the sanitation of hatchery equipment at fisheries and control parasitic water mold. KENIFINE offers a relatively inexpensive alternative.

Great link, thanks!

I need to get together a range of options for the client company, so this info is very welcome!
